The Gasthaus Hochalmspitze is an English-run hotel and restaurant in the picturesque Malta Valley in Carinthia, close to the Hohe Tauern National Park. It is an ideal base for all outdoor activities in summer and in winter.
    The hotel is perfectly situated for wonderful motorbiking and cycling, and is surrounded by hiking routes from easy to challenging. 4 ski resorts are within easy reach. A drying room, secure undercover motorbike parking and a car park are available. The hotel also has a large garden and a sunny terrace, and is located at the heart of the village of Malta, with easy access to all local facilities, including banks, shops and the public outdoor pool (free of charge). Your hosts speak English, German and French.

    Meals are served in our attractive restaurant, which also houses the bar, or on our sunny outdoor terrace. We also have a smaller dining room, which is perfect for small functions or meetings and private dinner parties. Our bar stocks local wines and beers, Guinness and Kilkenny, a good range of Scotch Malts as well as other spirits and many non-alcoholic options.
    Our breakfast buffet includes a wide selection of fresh local products, cereals, juices, meats and cheese, bread and rolls (straight from the baker's van), fruit and yoghurt, plus unlimited tea or coffee. Our menu is international, offering Austrian as well as English and Italian dishes - all made freshly from the best local ingredients. Vegetarians are well catered for, and we are happy to meet special dietary requests. A children's menu is also available.
Look out for our occasional 'themed' evenings, where our chef Ivor delights the palate with specially prepared options from all around the world.

    The picturesque village of Malta on the lower slopes of the Malta Valley - the valley of the "tumbling waters" and one of the most beautiful valleys in Austria -, is a perfect base for exploring Carinthia. This area offers stunning mountain scenery dotted with beautiful lakes, many of which are heated by thermal springs. The fascinating old town of Gmünd is almost on our doorstep and offers much of historical and cultural interest. Close by is the town of Spittal, famed for its theatrical history, the small towns of Seeboden and Millstatt, both with wonderful lake beaches and a great choice of water sports, as well as many other villages and towns worth exploring. The larger cities of Villach and Klagenfurt, both easily accessible, provide great shopping opportunities as well as interesting sights.
    Our area is especially tempting for hikers, cyclists and motorcyclists, all of whom will find a great choice of routes and challenges. Those who enjoy fishing, golf, horseback riding, climbing and winter sports are also well served. In winter 4 ski areas are within reach, and there is ice-climbing, cross-county skiing and ice-skating in the valley.

    The nearest airport is Klagenfurt (1 hour). Both Salzburg and Llubjiana are a 90-minute drive away. The nearest train station is Spittal an der Drau (20 km). Malta can be reached by public bus.
