    Located on the left bank of the Danube, the picturesque town of Weißenkirchen with its fortified church is the largest wine-growing community in the Wachau and the ideal starting point for excursions into the surrounding area. A visit to a “Heurigen” (wine tavern) and a boat ride on the Danube should be a part of every visit to the Wachau Valley.
    The world-famous abbeys of Melk and Göttweig, the historic towns of Krems and Dürnstein and the proximity to Vienna make the Wachau an attractive destination.
There are wonderful hiking and biking trails through the vineyards on both banks of the Danube.
